Five companies have submitted resolution plans for Jaiprakash Associates Ltd (JAL), the flagship company of the beleaguered Jaypee group, the company has said in a stock exchange filing. The Adani group, Vedanta, Jindal Steel & Power, Dalmia Bharat, and PSP Projects are the final bidders and the offers range from Rs 10,000 crore to Rs 11,000 crore, said a source close to the development.

The CIDCO and the Maharashtra government have stepped up efforts to arrive at a consensus over compensation for PAPs, before a meeting called by the prime minister on November 13 to expedite the work. PAPs, who have dropped their earlier demand of Rs 20 crore (Rs 200 million) per acre, are demanding allocation of 35 per cent developed land against the offer of 22.5 per cent made by the state government and CIDCO.

Security has been heightened outside the National Investigation Agency (NIA) headquarters in New Delhi, where Tahawwur Rana, the mastermind of the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, is being held following his extradition from the United States. Rana was brought to India after the US Supreme Court dismissed his review plea against extradition. The NIA secured an 18-day custody of Rana after he was produced before a special court in Delhi. Additional police and paramilitary forces have been deployed to ensure law and order. The extradition of Rana, a close associate of David Coleman Headley, the main conspirator of the Mumbai attacks, is a significant development in the investigation into the 2008 attacks.
